The Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) is the officially recognized student voice of undergraduate students at UCLA to the campus administration, faculty, and outside community. It is comprised of thirteen offices and commissions and aims to serve the UCLA community through advocacy, education, and programming. Elected by the undergraduate student body, the officers and commissioners of USAC work to enrich the undergraduate experience by bringing relevant issues and programs to the student body. Hello Mr. Milstein, 4 of 6 My name is Avinoam Baral and I am a second year at UCLA. As the current Internal Vice President of Bruins for Israel, I would like to firstly extend my deep appreciation for all the amazing support you provide 7/3/14 4:00 PM directly or indirectly to our organization. Having just returned more inspired than ever from the AIPAC Policy Conference (along with 30 Bruins), I am truly in awe of how much the support you and other pro-Israel activists matters in shaping the national conversation about Israel. I am reaching out to you because I am very concerned about the growing legitimacy of the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement on UC campuses. This year, divestment from Israel resolutions have already passed at UC Riverside and UC Irvine, and will be voted on at UC San Diego this coming week. This is unacceptable. I have recently decided to run for student government this year for the position of General Representative, largely with a motivation to make sure that pro-Israel, Jewish student voices are still heard and well-represented at UCLA. I'd like to take also this opportunity to introduce Avi Oved (another incredibly passionate and competent pro-Israel activist), who is also running this year for the position of Internal Vice President. We are both running with the Bruins United party that has consistently stood against the BDS movement. David Bocarsly and Raquel Saxe, both CCed on this email, were elected through this party. Unfortunately, I fear we are fighting a much harder battle this year and in light of the current events, strong, pro-Israel, anti-divestment, voices are needed more than ever at the UCLA council table. Specifically, the Palestinian cause has been taken up by the rival coalition, and if Avi and I (and the Bruins United party) do not win the elections this year, divestment will pass at UCLA. David and Raquel suggested I reach out to you for help in this endeavor. To be blunt, running a large scale campaign at UCLA is a complex and expensive operation. Avi and I have had trouble raising the necessary capital to run our campaigns and we hope you be of assistance. Additionally, Avi and I are free any day this week if you'd like to speak in person or over the phone regarding this. Thank you again for everything and we hope to speak to you soon, The Daily Californian Mail - Fwd: Letter to Circulate for Bruin...
