(NS) operates crude oil trains over Amtrak?s Northeast Corridor (NEC) line on the Mid-Atlantic Subdivision in two different locations. 0n the PW Line, the loaded crude oil trains operate northbound from Perryville, Maryland to Newark, Delaware. They enter Amtrak controlled territory from the NS Port Road (or Main Line) at Perry interlocking (MP 59.5), and travel 21 miles exiting Amtrak controlled territory at Davis Interlocking (MP 38.4) en route on the NS owned Delmarva Secondary to the Reybold oil refineries. Loaded crude oil trains consist of approximately 100 cars, and are approximately 13,500 tons. NS generally operates two per day. On the PW Line, the empty crude oil trains operate southbound from Newark, Delaware to Perryville, Maryland. They enter Amtrak controlled territory from the NS Delmarva Secondary at Davis interlocking (MP 38.4), and travel 21 miles exiting Amtrak controlled territory at Perry interlocking (MP 59.5) onto the NS Port Road (or Main Line). Empty crude oil trains consist of approximately 100 cars, and are approximately 4,000 tons. NS generally operates two per day. On the PH Line, both empty and loaded crude oil trains cross through Amtrak controlled territory at Roy interlocking (MP 94.3), 10 miles east of Harrisburg, on the Royalton Single line. The Royalton Single line is owned and operated by NS however Amtrak controls the portion that runs through Roy Interlocking. The loaded crude oil trains are operating in an eastbound direction, and the empty crude oil trains are operating in a westbound direction. These are the same trainsthat operate on the PW Line between Perryville, Maryland and Newark, Delaware. NS crude oil trains are restricted to a maximum speed of 30mph while operating on Amtrak controlled territory between the hours of 6:00am and 10:00pm. They are restricted to a maximum speed of 50mph between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am. These trains are also limited to not exceeding 135 cars in their consist.
