CONTRACT WITH COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA We, the undersigned candidates for the The District School Board of Collier County, Florida, publically declare that, with 3 seats being contested on August 26, 2014, a new School Board majority will have the authority and ability to pass major reforms described herein, aimed at returning a voice to parents and teachers, protecting our students, and improving the quality of our local educational system. Further, we solemnly pledge that, during one or more of the first 3 regular Board meetings after our election to office, we will bring up for vote, the following major reforms: FIRST, authorize the development and implementation of an external audit and review process (that takes into account public input) for all textbooks (including all newly purchased Common Core District textbooks and materials) to eliminate the use of all textbooks and materials that are factually inaccurate or politically indoctrinate our students at the taxpayer’s expense and amend the FY14-FY16 Collier County Public Schools Strategic Plan to reflect this. SECOND, authorize the District to lobby at the state level against: (i) Common Core state standards and assessments, and (ii) data mining of our students. THIRD, require Board meetings to commence on or after 5:30 PM in order to give all parents and working taxpayers the opportunity to attend and participate. FOURTH, eliminate BYOD in our K though 5 programs and amend the FY14-FY16 Strategic Plan to reflect this. FIFTH, return math flash cards and memorization of multiplication tables to our elementary school programs and amend the FY14FY16 Strategic Plan to reflect this. SIXTH, return the phonics method of teaching reading and writing of English to our K through 2 programs and amend the FY14-FY16 Strategic Plan to reflect this. SEVENTH, direct the Board attorney to: (i) declare the Superintendent’s contract extension approved by the current Board on July 29, 2014 as being void under FS 215.425(4)(a), and (ii) condition any contract extension on: (a) bringing the Superintendent’s contract into compliance with FS 215.425(4)(a); and (b) modifying the existing “termination for cause” and “termination with-out cause” provisions to give a simple Board majority the flexibility needed to incentivize and hold the Superintendent accountable. Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with Collier County, Florida. District 1 Kelly E.
