we're going to win that case and that the

NRA will ultimately not have standing to

bring these lawsuits.

before you would, I believe, put the City

in a much better position to defend some

very important legislation that this

Council has passed over the past few

statute which prohibits the City from

regulating the possession or ownership or

21

use of firearms, the preemption

22

provisions, which has caused us all kinds

of problems.

inevitable challenge, most notably the

requirement that people report their lost

4

or stolen firearms to the police within

5

48 hours.

We have also a whole series of

7

ordinances on the books, most of which

8

date back prior to any of the Committee

9

members' service on the Council, which if

10

they remain on the books will make it

11

more difficult for us to defend the

12

current -- the lawsuits -- the NRA has

13

already filed one lawsuit and we would

14

anticipate further lawsuits if the

15

legislation in the state is allowed to

16

expand the standing.

17

So we would -- the Law

18

Department is recommending that the

19

Council suspend the effectiveness of

20

various ordinances relating to firearms

21

so that they don't create an unnecessary

22

distraction when we're defending some of

23

the very important work that this Council

24

has done.
