Task 4: Support public outreach efforts for Operation BORDER STAR Subtask 4.1: Public Information and Communication Support Status Update 31 October, 2010 law; Support public outreach efforts for Operation BORDER STAR. Public Information and Communication support. Deliverable: Support public information outreach by providing fact sheets, media guidance, briefing support, and related documents. Current Status. Last month, Public Information Outreach themes and messages were provided to Assistant Director Tony Leal, Texas Ranger Division for review. Subject to his changes and approval, these themes and messages will be coordinated within the Department of Public Safety Headquarters in November. In preparation for visits by State legislators to Operation BLUE HERON (October 18- 22), the BSOC created 14 briefing books. (index below) Additionally, another five briefing books were assembled to provide to legislators participating in anticipated follow on visits to Operation BARB WIRE (November). Fact sheets were updated on the topics of: Operation BORDER STAR, Unified Commands, Texas Border Security Operations Center, Joint Operations and intelligence Centers, Southbound Operations, Texas Ranger Reconnaissance Teams, Autonomous Sensor Arrays, Texas Ranger Reconnaissance Team Waterborne Operations, and Border Security Community of Interest. New fact sheets were developed in the subject areas of Predator Unmanned Aerial Systems, Caltrops, and Human Trafficking (Tab 1). During this period, the BSOC also developed an Operations Briefing (Tab 2) for Ranger Reconnaissance Team Operation BLUE HERON and a Mission Briefing (Tab 3) for Operation BARB WIRE. Media guidance was coordinated with the Department of Public Safety's Public lnforrnation Office and inserted as Section 7, ?Public Information,? (Tab 4) to the Texas Ranger Reconnaissance Team Standing Operating Procedures. Future Actions. Focus will be the development of a DRAFT Public information Outreach Strategy which incorporates the aforementioned ?Themes and Messages.? This strategy will seek to identify: Goals and Objectives Audiences Media Outlets Levels of Communication Evaluation Criteria and Methods Additionally, the strategy will seek to incorporate existing Public information Awareness and Outreach programs to assist in border security efforts.
