Queensland Government Department of Environment and Heritage Protection 27 February 2015 Dear resident, Soil test investigation - Hopeiand area The Queensland Government has been conducting soil sampling in the Hopeland area. The presence of particular gases. such as carbon monoxide, has been identified in the soil at depths below 2 metres at a number of locations. These are combustion by?products and are not associated with coal seam gas development. These gases have not been detected at the surface or in the air. With information to hand it is understood that impacts to human health are very unlikely. Nonetheless, Queensland Health has been informed and is providing ongoing assessments of any potential risk to health as more information becomes available. The Queensland Government is taking this matter very seriously and is in the process of A. fully investigating these findings to determine the source, cause and extent of the contamination. You may observe government officers in the area in the coming weeks. Every effort is being made to assist local residents during this time and you will be provided with regular updates once further information is known. Government officials are already in the area undertaking a range of sampling activities and visiting relevant landholders.
