FINDINGS: 1. Found dead at home with:

A. History of very heavy eXposure to toxic in a
concentrations of heavy metals and gasse
firing range;

B. Severe pulmonary edema; .

C. Inflammatory changes of lungs: microscopic.

2. No evidence of other trauma or significant natural
disease.

CONCLUSIOR: It is my opinion that Thomas C. Kelly, a 35?year-old
white male, died as a result of acute reapiratory failure 
severe pulmonary edema due to prolonged exposure to toxic
concentrations of heavy metals and gasses in a firing range. He
was the firing range training officer for his police department
during a very heavy time of firing in a relatively confined space
in the 3 or 4 days immediately prior to his death. The death
occurred suddenly and the only positiVe findings at autopsy were
severe pulmonary edema. Multiple sections of heart were examined
with negative results. Chemical analysis of body fluids revealed
an elevated level of lead and of zinc consistent
with the toxic environment exposure as indicated. The microscopic

lung changes are consistent with toxic injury.
