Statement to be attributed to Louise Elsey, Chief Operating Officer, Avenue Living Communities: At Avenue Living Communities, we are committed to providing quality housing for our residents. We are a responsible property manager and take the needs of our residents seriously. This includes overseeing comprehensive operations and maintenance plans at each of our properties. It also includes taking swift action to address complaints and maintenance issues that are brought to our attention. In this particular case, Ms. Barnes signed a six-month lease with us at our Westwood Apartments property in Lethbridge in 2018. During her lease, our team responded to each of her concerns and was able to remedy the heat-related issues she was experiencing. Following an extension to the natural end of Ms. Barnes’ lease, our team took the proper and necessary steps to end her tenancy. We believe our team was responsive and acted accordingly to handle Ms. Barnes tenancy with us. After a lengthy legal process, we determined the best course of action was to enter a Release of Indemnity with Ms. Barnes in order for all parties to move forward. Our team in Lethbridge, now led by a Senior Vice President, manages our properties across the city and proudly upholds our commitment to quality housing for our residents by delivering on our maintenance programs every day. Lethbridge is an important community to us and we are proud to provide housing to our residents there and across Alberta.
