21 May 2015 File No: 2531.001 Via Email CBC Vancouver 700 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2R5 Attention: Jason Proctor jason.proctor@cbc.ca Dear Sir: Re: Report re: Zhao Family As you are aware, we are civil counsel to Mr Li Zhao, Ms Xiaomei Li, and Ms Yiming Zhao. We write concerning your report, posted on the CBC website following the extraordinary press conference held by Mr Qiang Yuan and his legal counsel. Your report repeats scandalous speculation and outrageous allegations from Mr Yuan’s counsel. The reported comments are inconsistent with the criminal charges Mr Zhao faces, and in any event concern matters that are before the court. They are not proven facts. My clients were not given advance notice of the press conference or the allegations that would be levelled at them, and were accordingly hampered in their ability to provide meaningful comment before the press conference was reported in the media. My clients have grave concerns as to what motivated the press conference and are considering all of their legal rights at this stage. In the meantime, they wish it to be noted that they deny all of the allegations apparently made during the press conference and that were reported in your article and others.
