SGT John Haney 8487 ROLE REV BEAT 2 2 BFO 2 Narrative On 21JAN13 at approximately 1826 hrs I was working as 2T41. I was wearing my full police wool uniform and driving fully marked OPD patrol vehicle #1712 . I was in the area of Doolittle Dr and Hegenberger Rd. At about this time, I heard Ofc. M. Miller 8444P advise that he was in the 1700 blk of Seminary Ave and an officer had been shot. Ofc. Miiler requested that officers respond to the area in "Code 3" status to assist. Ofc. Miller further advised that there were three MB suspects and they had fled the area west bound. I responded to the 1700 blk of Seminary Ave in "Code 3" status. Upon my arrival to the scene, I observed Ofc. E: Karsseboom seated on the curb. I observed lacerations to Ofc. Karsseboom's head . I also observed an apparent gunshot wound near Ofc. Karsseboom's left wrist. Ofc. Karsseboom did not have on a shirt. 1· observed blood on Ofc. Karsseboom's head and left arm. Ofc. T. O'Connor 8996P was rendering first aid to Ofc. Karsseboom. Ofc. Karsseboom was also giving the suspect description to Ofc. J. McDonnel 8936P . PMP and OFD responded to the scene shortly thereafter. I rode in the ambulance with Ofc. Karsseboom to the hospital. While enroute to the hospital , Ofc. Karsseboom advised me of the suspect description and a brief synopsis of what occurred . Ofc. Karsseboom advised that he was in the area of 1759 Seminary Ave, inside of his vehide when he was approached by three suspects. All three suspects were armed with handguns. All three suspects pointed their handguns at Ofc. Karsseboom . S1 tried to take .Ofc. Karsseboom's gun away from him . A struggle ensued and Ofc. Karsseboom was shot in his left arm by S1 . S2-S3 pistol whipped Ofc. Karsseboom in the head during this time. S1 was eventually able to take Ofc. Karsseboom's gun away from him. Ofc. Karsseboom took S1 's gun away from him. S1 -S3 fled the area west from the area. I remained w ith Ofc. Karsseboom until he was released at the hospital at approximately 2220 hrs . During this time Ofc . Karsseboom did not discuss the details of th e case with anyone else . While at the hospital , investigators Ofc. L. Sanchez , Sgt. C. Basa , and Ofc. E. Milina spoke with Ofc. Karsseboom privately. I do not know the contents of their conversation . Once Ofc. Karsseboom was released from the hospital, I went to CID . I did not locate any witnesses. I did not use or observe a use of force.
