I make this statement of my own free wil and without any threats made to me or promises extended^^Uu^derstand that this statement is given concerning my knowledce of death of detainee identifkation puiposes, I am a black male, ^tall and I weigh approximately W^mds. I was bomon^^^, iilHPiH^d my ysocial security number is I currently reside at ^^■i VH^rracks and 1 am currentl assigned to NEGB, JTF-GTMO^^P^ On 01 Jun09 at 1720hrs, I reported to my assignment at the Behavior Health Unit (BHU), Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The BHU houses detainees that have expressed the desire to harm themselves. We h^ nine guards and one Watch Commander on duty that night I believe there were Mven detainees being housed at the BHU. We utilized two guards 9t a time to monitor the seven detainees. I was paired up with MBH^Bi^at night. The five other guards are in the next rooin in case anything happens. Our duties were to look inside each cell and check on the welfare of detainees. We look inside the cell windows to ensure the detainees are not in^ssMsifln of contrabands^ or attempting to do harm to themselves. We usually spend approximately^hi^^sRfflSs looking inside of each cell window. We specifically look in each cell to see that the detainee is moving. If the detainee is under a b nkg we look at the blanket to ensure that it ascends and descends (to make sure they are breathing^ ^^^ fcW I started my first round on the BHU tier around 21 OOhrs that night.
