Athlos Academy Dallas/Fort Worth July 17, 2015 Media Contact: Tiffany O’Neill (210) 904-6791 tiffanyoneilltx@gmail.com ATHLOS ACADEMY DALLAS/FORT WORTH RESPONDS TO STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION VETO DALLAS-After receiving initial approval from Commissioner of Education Michael Williams on June 2, the Texas State Board of Education today vetoed Athlos Academy’s charter school application to open two new schools in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas in the 2016-2017 school year. “While our local school board is disappointed by the State Board of Education’s veto of Athlos Academy’s application, we will continue a dedicated effort to bring our innovative schools to students in the area,” said Tiffany O’Neill, Athlos Foundation Board President. “The argument that Texas funding will be sent out-of state is absolutely false. Those dollars will be used to build schools, hire local teachers, and provide services to students right here in our community.” Athlos Academy provides a distinctive curriculum that balances three pillars of performance—Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character—to educate the whole child.
