City of Cincinnati Council I J1 I \3 \Id utr\, CMC +11 MOTION WE MOVE that the city’s goal for street deployment of police body worn cameras be no later than December 31, 2015. WE FURTHER MOVE that within 30 days the Administration provid e Council with a detailed implementation plan for achieving this goal. Vi4 a 9/vir 1 I STATEMENT This week’s report from the Administration details an incredibly complicated and lengthy process for making body cameras operational in Cincinnati. I applaud the Administration for thoroughly working through the myriad of questions and implications that this new technology will present, but I challenge them to move more rapidly and with the urgency that this top priority deserves. Sam DuB ose’s tragic death reminds us that officer worn body cameras are a critical tool to providing transparency and accountability as officers conduct business in our community. In the spirit of honoring our commitment to community policing strategies and our Collaborative Agreement, this motion urges the swift implementation of a body camera program by the end of the year. We simply cannot wait until next summer to have this technology on the streets. City Council’s Law and Public Safety Committee was first briefed on the potential implementation of body cameras in December of 2014, including details on a field study that the Cincinnati Police Department deployed in August and September of 2014. A timeline that asks us to wait ten more months, nearly two years from when the city first began this process, is just not fast enough. I look forward to hearing back from the Administration on a revised, more urgent timeline and working with them to bring it to fruition.
