10/1/15   Faculty and Academic Achievements 2013-2015 The faculty ambassadors in the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, Bethany Nelson, Robert Kubacki and Daniela Kukrechtova, are on call for consulting with faculty, troubleshooting and classroom visits. The faculty-mentoring program, Nexus, has been created to support all faculty. We launched the online Faculty Guide with faculty profiles populated by department, school and alphabetically. The Student Learning Committee, composed of department representatives, has finished an iterative process of creating learning goals for all students at the College: communicate, create, collaborate, critically think and civically engage. Over the last two years, 40% of our new fulltime faculty hires bring diversity of ethnicity and country to Emerson. With support from the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship and the faculty, the amount of funding we requested from external sources increased between FY13 and FY15 by 13%, and the number of proposals we submitted increased by 15% between FY13 and FY15. The Massachusetts Cultural Council Facilities Fund has awarded $100k toward our goal of opening the first public art gallery in the Boston Common/Theater District Area. Engagement Lab has been awarded a $300,000 grant over 3 years from the Teagle Foundation to start a civic media consortium in the Boston area. Faculty Achievements in Curriculum New online MFA in Popular Fiction in WLP and a low residency MFA in Screenwriting in VMA. The School of the Arts has created a new BFA in Comedic Arts, the first in the country. The School of Communication will be offering a new college-wide major, the Business of Creative Enterprises. Distinct from traditional business majors, the Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) major will prepare students to become future executives, managers, and innovators in new or existing creative enterprises in Arts and Entertainment, Media, Communication and Publishing sectors. The School of Communication will also be offering a 1-credit research course and a new interdisciplinary minor. 10/1/15   The Sports concentration in Communication Studies is new this year, as are the African American and Africana Studies minor and the Digital Media and Culture minor in the Institute, and the BFA in Design for Stage and Screen within Performing Arts. First-Year Writing Program has piloted a new enhanced option that offers students a more intensive opportunity to develop their voices as scholarly writers, and define their own research projects as a result of Student Government Feedback. The ACE Globalization effort has led to many new faculty-led programs in France, Greece, Mexico, and Ireland to name but a few. These are in addition to our unique and hallmark programs in Columbia and Salzburg. We’re strengthening our relationship with the Beijing Film Academy and working with Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations in Spain to provide a semester exchange program with our students. Our students also have access to Berklee’s program in Valencia; We’ve increased the number of online summer school classes from 3 in 2013 to 6 in 2014 to 13 this summer We are fulfilling the promise of the ELA campus where all majors from Emerson can participate in experiential learning, not just in the film industry, but in non-profits, newspapers, and museums.
