C1 Hey, I’m not sure if you can help me or not (Inaudible). We just moved last month from Pennsylvania, I have a job in Augusta for the summer and I’m staying at a boarding house in Pittston, and I was given twenty-four (24) hour notice to get out after they gave me a written notice on the tenth (10th) saying please be out by September 30th we’re closing the house early. And then last night they gave me twenty-four (24) hours to get out. But I have nowhere to go I called the homeless shelters, (Inaudible) because they (Inaudible) for kicking me out. And I just don’t know where to turn, I called 211 they gave me your number. ECS1 What’s the address? C1 Specialist Specialist Specialist Specialist Specialist Specialist in Pittston. ECS1 And what’s your last name? C1 My last name is ECS1 And your first name? C1 ECS1 , C1 . . And what’s your date of birth for the office records only? C1 ECS1 , . And a phone number that we can reach you at? - - . ECS1 They said you had to be out by September 30th? C1 Yes. They gave us a note that says: We’ll be closing the house on October 1st rather than the 31st. You need to be moved out by September 30th. This notice will give you enough time to find a place. (Inaudible) for work, and I needed temporary housing until I found a place, and that’s why I stayed here. And then last night they said I 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 91 92 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 100 101 102 103 104 105 106 107 108 109 110 111 112 needed to be out by Sunday, and I have nowhere to go. And I don’t think it’s legal for them to just give me twenty-four (24) hour notice to be out. And then I have in writing that they gave me until September 30th. I think one of the issues is that they’re probably running an illegal boarding house which I didn’t know when I moved up here, and I wanted to pay in check and then they, just this past week after getting the written notice that they would no longer be taking a check but they would accept payment in cash. And so there’s something not right here. And they said I’m the only one that pays by check so, and for some reason he said because I wanted to pay with a check, now I’m out. ECS1 All right, we’ll let the officer know and we’ll have him contact you, okay? C1 All right, thank you. ECS1 You’re welcome. C1 All right, bye. And I asked him, I said, I don’t feel safe going over there but he said that the guy said that it would be okay, but it’s obviously not. ECS2 Okay, I will let him know. C1 All right, so. ECS2 Are you still there or where are you? C1 I’m in the parking lot but I’m getting ready – I didn’t go back because he starts pitching a fit. ECS2 So what’s the name of the gas station? C1 All right, thanks. ECS2 Bye. AV August 15, 2015 17:10:35 ECS4 Public Safety. C1 Hi, I called earlier – I’m having issues with my landlord. ECS4 Okay. C1 I’m just wondering (Inaudible). I went to pay for next week and they said you have to get out with no notice at all, and, he’s been harassing us, we got back into our room, and they’re banging on the door telling us we have three (3) hours to get out. Can they legally force us out when we have the money to pay the rent and they didn’t give us proper notice? ECS4 You don’t have a lease signed or anything do you? C1 No but everything that I’ve read online (Inaudible) that they need to give a notice (Inaudible). ECS4 Okay, where do you live? C1 It’s at anything (Inaudible). ECS4 Uh-huh. C1 Because, they gave us literally no notice. ECS4 Okay, its C1 , I was waiting for a He hasn’t called you back since the last time? . Trying to find (Inaudible) can’t find , what was the address? in Pittston, Maine. ECS4 And what is your name? C1 My name is . We were dealing with Trooper Allen earlier, and he said there was nothing he could do because it was a civil matter. 282 283 284 285 286 287 288 289 290 291 292 293 294 295 296 297 298 299 300 301 302 303 304 305 306 307 308 309 310 311 312 313 314 315 316 317 318 319 320 321 322 323 324 325 326 327 328 329 330 331 332 333 334 335 336 337 338 ECS4 Okay. C1 So can they just break the door down and throw us out physically - and they didn’t follow any of the procedures, there’s none. ECS4 Okay, so the trooper told you he couldn’t help you? C1 He just said because it’s a civil matter, that there’s no one that can help with civil matters until Monday. And we don’t know what to do, we were just going to come back in here and grab a few things but we have nowhere to go. ECS4 Okay, if the trooper told you there’s nothing he could do – the only thing else I could do is have another trooper to call you and they’re going to tell you the same thing. C1 Is there a (Inaudible)? Is there literally anyone that can protect us and help us because I have a feeling these people are going to hurt us. ECS4 You think they’re going to hurt you? C1 We were already threatened by the husband. ECS4 Okay, did you tell this to Trooper Allen? C1 Yes. ECS4 And he said? C1 And he said it’s a civil matter. ECS4 Okay, if that’s what he said then there’s nothing else I can do either. C1 So do you actually have to be physically assaulted before you can do anything? ECS4 Of course you don’t ma’am, of course you don’t. But I mean if this has been handled by a trooper – C1 Because he wasn’t screaming and (Inaudible) I asked him if he could come over to the house with me where I can safely get in (Inaudible). ECS4 Okay. C1 So I came over to try and get in by myself and the landlord was screaming at me; and I couldn’t get in and then Trooper Allen did call and say that they had to let us in, and they said they were only letting us in to get our stuff. ECS4 Okay. C1 But we’re paid through till tomorrow, and plus they didn’t give us any sort of eviction notice (Inaudible). ECS4 I will have whoever is working right now, that area, I will have them call you and see if they (Inaudible) 339 340 341 342 343 344 345 346 347 348 349 350 351 352 353 354 355 356 357 358 359 360 361 362 363 364 365 366 367 368 369 370 371 372 373 374 375 376 377 378 379 380 381 382 383 384 385 386 387 388 389 390 391 392 393 394 395 C1 Thank you. And I have never met people like this, and I have never been in any other situation where no one will help. ECS4 Okay. C1 I mean I work for the crisis and help (Inaudible) some people will give people help and now I’m sitting in the street there’s no one to help. ECS4 Okay, let me have somebody call you, okay?
