National Public Order Intelligence Unit Minute Sheet NPOIU policy document on welfare matters Detective Chief Superintendent In response to your request for sight of the NPOIU welfare policy. please see 1A. Our policy is closely aligned to SO10 policy and we use the same counselling services. The initial assessment also uses the same person. We are currently reviewing our use of the counselling services since we have concerns that the unique experiences in the disorder field are different to those experienced in the crime field. Our most obvious difference is that a significant proportion of those persons interacting with the undercover officer are of little or no operational interest and are not criminal. The potential for 'Stockholm' is therefore much greater. In addition, the need for adequate medical counselling is much greater in our field, due to dietary - restriction. poor living conditions and exposure to illnesses and infections. I have asked DS- to obtain the SO10 welfare document but to date .has been unable to contact the relevant person. As soon as- can contact the relevant officer-will report position.
