When a new government is formed, the governor general
presides over the swearing-in ceremony of the prime
minister and Cabinet. Here is the sequence of events.

 

Arrival at
Rideau Hall


Swearlng-In
The prime minister-designate 
and the ministers-designate 

arrive at Rideau Hall for the
swearing-in ceremony.

The prime minister-designate
then meets with
the governor general.

Swearing-in of the
prime minister-designate

The Oaths Oath of Office

Instrument of Advice

The newly sworn-in prime minister signs the
Instrument of Advice nominating his ministry and presents
it to the governor general.

The governor general signs the Instrument of Advice to
accept the recommendations ot the prime minister.

The swearing-in ot ministers-designate begins.

clerk of the Privy Council sign the oath
books to tormally attest to the
swearing-in ot the ministry.

Great Seal of End of
Canada Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony
ends with the singing of
the National Anthem.

The minister of Industry, who
also has responsibilities as the
registrar general ot Canada, is
entrusted with the Great Seal of

Canada by the governor
general.
