From: McGovern, Gail Sent: Tuesday, December S, 2D15 11:14 AM To: All Employees - Biomed; All Employees - Chapter; All Employees - l'leD; BHD - Region Chairs Subject: Relief from Consent Decree Distributed to: Staff The following message is from Gail McGovern, President and DED: Hi everyone. lam delighted to announce that, as of Friday, December 4. SD15. the American Red Cross is no longer under the Food and Drug Administration's Consent Decree pertaining to our blood services operations. This is an unprecedented accomplishment one that speaks volumes about not only the quality of our Biomedical Services, but also the incredible commitment of Red Drossers everywhere. As many of you knowI the Red Cross has worked closer with the FDA over the last ?ve years to develop a more robustI world?class system to evaluate and monitor the performance of our compliance functions. The systems weive put in place have helped to strengthen an organizational culture that was already dedicated to the importance of quality and patient safety. and ultimately resulted in a five-year period of sustained compliance that led to our release from the Consent Decree. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and sincere congratulations to everyone in Biomedical Services and across the organization ?who helped make this accomplishment a reality. In particular, I?d like to give a very special thank you to Shaun Gilmore. Kathy IIAI'aldman, Chris HroudaI Craig Mendelsohn. Thomas Manor. and Allan Goldberg for their leadership, vigilance, and constant commitment to quality and patient safety. As the nation?s largest supplier of blood products, the safety and availability of Americas blood supply will of course remain our top priority. I have full confidence that our outstanding Red Drossers in Biomedical Services and across all our other lines of service will continue to perform their duties with exemplary skill, determination and integrity. In closingI I ask that all of you take a moment to recognize the magnitude of this accomplishment. The Red Cross had been operating under the IConsent Decree since 1993. In that time, we've been held to the very highest standards across the blood services industry. We've now successfully reached quality and compliance milestones that at one point seemed almost unimaginable for an organization of our scope and scale. For me. this serves as further proof that Red Crossers can do anything. I continue to be incredibly proud to be a part of this American treasure, and I am so very proud of all of you. 1v'liarm wishes for the holiday season, Sail
