Prior to this the application of chemical irritant (CS spray) was a standalone report.  Counterforce means force or techniques used by an officer to bring a subject under control, or to counter the resistance / aggression to affect an arrest.  Deadly Force means the force used could have potentially resulted in serious physical harm or death to the offender. The incident referenced above did not result in serious physical harm or death.  The chart, “Highest Counterforce Applied” means during one single use of force incident there may have been more than one application of force or techniques used, but only the highest level of force was recorded for statistical purposes. Note: Chemical irritant applications (CS spray) were added to this chart for 2010-2013.  The chart, “Total Counterforce Applied” accounts for the force or techniques used by an officer during a use of force incident. In some incidents, only one application of force or technique was applied. In others, more than one application of force or technique was applied. Note: The application of chemical irritant (CS Spray) from the chemical irritant reports were added to this chart for 2010-2013. Some chemical irritant reports included other techniques such taking a subject to the ground, but were not included in this chart because the technique used was not classified as a use of force.  Taser applications were deployed by other agencies. This department does not carry Tasers.  Canine apprehensions means the canine was used to apprehend the offender resulting in a bite or other injury. Five of the canine apprehensions occurred in other jurisdictions (mutual aid) where our canine was called to assist in apprehending or locating an offender.
