Chatman Inquiry Dear Lawrence, It was a pleasure speaking with you today regarding Mr. Chatman and Reflections Treatment Center. After speaking with Mr. Chatman in depth about your line of questioning, please find his official statement below. “Like any business, group, church or organization, dealing with people in their time of need– we in the Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation community often face accusations, misnomers, scrutiny, and blatant character assignation in regards to what we do and who we do it for. It is true that we serve a variety of people from all backgrounds, races, creeds, colors, religions, and economic capability. From prostitutes to runaways - business executives and athletes the war on drugs is one that we cannot win – but we sure can fight. It is harsh reality that those who are truly trying to recover are judged so harshly by those who have never had to face addiction head on. When a treatment center is established in a neighborhood – the war cries sound because it is rare to find a community willing to coexist with those we serve without preconceived notions and fear. As the founder of Reflections Treatment Center, I can say without hesitation that I along with my team have dedicated all of our resources to improving the lives of the hundreds of young people that come through our doors suffering from the affects of addiction. Our hope is that each one receives a measure of healing that helps them through their life course. Unfortunately, not every story has a happy ending. Relapse, overdose and even suicide are some of the realities that the treatment community must live with. However, these lows make the peaks even more astounding. Seeing a client get their first job, buy a new car or reunite with their children are the unspoken rewards. Reflections does provide transportation to and from sober living homes all around South Florida and we do this in order to insure safe arrival to and from our treatment center for our clients and to help give comfort to the community that these homes are among. We do not however, operate or set policy for any of those facilities. I would never, knowingly put any of the clients of Reflections Treatment Center or any other vulnerable young person in harm's way. Allegations to the contrary are unfounded and harmful. As a husband, father, black community leader and long term respected member of the South Florida business community I stand behind my well established reputation."
