United States Consulate General Monterrey, NL – Mexico NEW CONSULATE COMPOUND JULY 2014 T he United States Consulate General in Monterrey plans to move to a new building in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon in the summer of 2014. The construction of this new facility reflects the importance of the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Mexico and is a step forward in the cooperation and partnership of the two countries - a partnership founded on common interests, mutual respect and responsibility.  Construction began in 2010 and concluded in 2014.  The consular campus is located on Prolongación Ave. Alfonso Reyes #150 Col. Valle Poniente Sta. Catarina, N.L. 66196 (near the University of Monterrey UDEM and the American School ASFM).  The project consists of a consular building, controlled access zones, parking, recreational areas, vehicle maintenance center and an enclosure to monitor and filter the consular correspondence. The main building consists of a two-story structure that houses the consular services (visas and services for U.S. citizens) and a 5level building with other consular sections.  As part of the transition to our new Consulate, we also welcome the arrival of our Marine Security Guard Detachment. The primary mission of the Marine Security Guard (MSG) is to provide internal security at designated U.S. diplomatic and consular facilities in order to prevent the compromise of classified material vital to the national security of the United States.  The new campus will provide a convenient and functional environment for more than 200 employees working at the U.S Consulate Monterrey. This building will replace the property currently occupied by the U.S. Government since 1969 in downtown Monterrey.  The new campus will help the consulate keep up with a growing demand for visas. Monterrey was the fifth-largest visa processing post in the world in 2013. We processed more than 400,000 visas in 2013.  We also processed the highest number of temporary work visas (H-type) in the world, receiving requests from all over Mexico. In 2013 we processed over 70,000 H-visas in Monterrey, placing at number 1 worldwide.  After the move, we hope to increase the number of visas processed as we U.S. Consulate General – Press Office (PAS) Monterrey, NL Mexico Tel: (81) 8047-3302 Page 1 / 2 http://monterrey.usconsulate.gov will have 42 windows for visa services (currently we only have 26 windows).  In addition, we will have 9 windows for American citizens (currently we only have 4). In 2013, we process 4,068 U.S. passports, 363 reports of birth abroad, and we attended 300 emergency cases in our consular district (consisting of 5 states), in which we estimate 112,000 American citizens reside.  The Consulate in Monterrey serves 5 Mexican states: Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas.  We have an Embassy in Mexico City and 9 Consulates: Ciudad Juarez, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Matamoros, Merida, Monterrey, Nogales, Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana.
