Dear Resident,
Too many stories about how Brooklyn is changing pit new residents against those
who have lived in the community for years. This is a shame, because we’re all in
the fight against unfair and illegal treatment by landlords together.
Recently, I heard from a new resident of Bed-Stuy who is concerned that her
landlord has forced out long time tenants and is illegally overcharging new ones.
My staff encouraged her to request her rental history and it reveals that her
suspicions were well founded. Your building is managed by the same company.
This is why I’m encouraging you 1) request your rental history TODAY (details
on reverse); and, 2) attend our community meeting at Berg’n on Thursday,
December 3rd at 7 PM. There, legal experts will explain how you can fight illegal
rent overcharges, poor building conditions and harassment.
Neighborhood change is a fact of city life, but the illegal loss of precious
affordable apartments doesn’t have to be. I hope you’ll join this critical fight for
the 36th Council District and have fun with your neighbors at the same time.
