McCaul Member of Congress 10th District, Texas 415 Cannon Building Washington, DC 20515 Dear Representative McCaul: I am -writing to you for help in obtaining a presidential pardon ftra federal criminal conviction. The crime, attempted manufacture of methamphetamine, was committed in early 1978, and the sentence handed to me sometime during the following year. The sentence was for 5 years probation, but 1receivedan early termination after about 2 years for good behavior. It has now been over 29 years since the crime, and over 25 years since 1 completed my sentence. Other then minor traffic violations, I have had no further problems with the law, and have been actively employed ever since. I have contributed to the community and continue to do so. In. 19841 started my own business, a medical microbiology diagnostic laboratory in Austin, and ran it for 6 years before the HMO's out-competed me. I then moved to Waco, Texas and ran the Waco-McCIennan County Health Department laboratory for about a year before changing careers to become an information technology professional for IBM in February, 1992. I worked for IBM Austinforalmost 5 years before joining an IT consulting company in Austin called The Kernel Group (TKG) in Oct, 1996. We took some of the knowledge we gainedfromIT consulting and transformed TKG into a software company in late 1999. We took an idea that I had (US Patent 6,931,558) that allows computer systems to be recovered automaticallyfromthe ground up and developed a software product (Bare Metal Restore). TKG was acquired by Veritas Software in late December, 2001. Veritas was acquired by Symantec Software in June, 2005. I am currently employed by Symantec as a Senior Principal Technical Product Manager. This conviction has kept me out of some important employment opportunities and continues to be a problemforme. 1 feel very confident that I have paid my debt to society. Thank youforyour support. Sincerely, Raymond C. Schafer U. S.
