IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Connuittce on A BILL To require the Director of the United States Fish and Wild- life Service to report any incident of nontarget species capture, and for other purposes. p?n Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. NONTARGET SPECIES CAPTURE. The National Wildlife Refuge System Administration Act of 1966 is amended? (1) by inserting before section 4 (16 U.S.C. 668dd) the following: 1. SHORT TITLE. ?This Act may be cited as the ?National Wildlife Ref- p?t uge System Administration Act of 1966?.?; 6044 S.L.C. 2 (2) by redesignating section 5 (16 U.S.C. 668cc) as section 2 and moving that section so as to appear after section 1 (as added by paragraph (3) in paragraph (14) of section 2 (as so redes- ignated), by striking ?section and inserting ?section (4) by redesignating section 4 (16 U.S.C. 668dd) as section 3; and (5) by inserting after section 3 (as so redesig- nated) the following: 4. NOTICE AND REPORTING. Director shall post on the System website and on the website of the relevant refuge notice of any use of a body-gripping trap before the commence- ment of that use and throughout the period in which any body-gripping trap is in use. later than December 31 of each year, beginning after the ?rst full fiscal year of implemen- tation of this Act, the Director shall submit to the Com- mittee on Natural Resources of the House of Representa- tives and the Committee on Environment and Public Works of the Senate a report that describes actions taken under this section in the preceding fiscal year, including? 6044 NHO S.L.C. 3 the identification of any refuge in which a body-gripping trap was us the typ?f body-gripping traps uselatnd a determination of whether the use of a body-grip- ping trap was successful for the intended purpose; the number and species of animals, includ- ing target and nontarget species, that were captured in body-gripping traps'on refuges; and a description of any injuries sustained la nontarget animals caused directly or indirectly by the capture of those nontaEt animals in body-grip- ping traps on refuges?.
