NEWS RELEASE Media Contact: Mary L. Gugliuzza Media Relations/Communications Coordinator 817-392-8253 (office) 817-991-8403 (cell) mary.gugliuzza@fortworthtexas.gov For Immediate Release February 5, 2016 Boil Water Notice Issued for far north Fort Worth A boil water notice is in effect immediately for portions of far North Fort Worth. The impacted area is bordered by Sendera Boulevard on the north, Willow Springs Road on the west, Haslet city limits on the east and Bonds Ranch Road on the south. The boil water notice also includes the Trails of Fossil Creek and the Fossil Hill subdivisions. Due to a loss of pressure in parts of the system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the City of Fort Worth, PWS ID 2200012, to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice. If you have questions regarding this matter, you may contact Water Customer Relations at 817392-4477. An operational error led to the draining of the Bradley elevated water tank on Harmon Road, which resulted in the pressure dropping below 20 pounds per square inch in some areas. All restaurants in the affected area are closed until boil water notice is rescinded, which will occur no sooner than Friday afternoon. Restaurants are being closed by the Code Compliance Consumer Health Section because water in this area has been deemed unsafe for public consumption unless it is boiled. The food preparation areas in the deli and bakery sections of any grocery stores within the affected area will also be shut down. Those establishments whose primary function is not food preparation such as nursing homes and day care centers will remain open as long as they provide their clients with pre-packaged foods and only use water that is safe for consumption such as bottled water for drinking. For more information on food establishment closures, call Consumer Health at 817-392-7255. -30-
