“The Council’s public requirements of ethics are contained in four sections of the Criteria, on our website, and excerpted for your consideration in the attached document. The canon of ethics that must be signed by all commissioners requires them to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety in all activities; disclose to the Council any actual or potential conflict of interest; and to refrain from participating in Council actions regarding an institution that is the subject of that conflict. The canons also require a commissioner to inform the Chair or Chair-elect of any potential violation; the leadership of the Council will either determine that no violation has occurred or will notify the commissioner involved of the allegation. The commissioner involved shall have the opportunity to respond to the allegation in person or in writing to the Council, and the If the Council determines that a violation has occurred, it may remove the commissioner by a two-thirds vote. In all other instances where a violation is found, the Council shall take such action as necessary in order to maintain the integrity of ACICS.” --Anthony Bieda, Vice President for External Affairs, ACICS on February 17,2016.
