Mem TENNESSEE A WHARTON, JR. MAYOR December 31, 2014 Tina Sullivan Executive Director Overton Park Conservancy 1914 Poplar Avenue, Suite 202 Memphis, TN 38104 Dear Ms. Sullivan: RE: Greensward at Overton Park it is my understanding that a serious effort is underway to develop a long term solution for Memphis Zoo parking. in view of the experience of this past summer it has become clear to me that the Overton Park Greensward will be an important relief for Zoo parking until such time as a viable alternative is realized. My clear preference is not use the Greensward for parking. have asked George Little, CAD, to convene all the Overton Park stakeholders to develop a viable plan for Zoo parking that does not involve the Greensward. This stakeholder group will include members of the Zoo and OPC boards. The plan should address parking, financing options and adoption strategies. Overton Park is a great treasure for all citizens of Memphis. The Memphis Zoo is a tremendous asset and is nationally recognized as one of the best zoos. Therefore, the City will allow parking on the Greensward, as may be absolutely essential to Zoo operations, until a plan is implemented, on January 1, 2019 whichever comes first.
