Re: Hello again 1 of 3 Subject: Re: Hello again From: Brad Racino Date: Tue, 08 Dec 2015 16:41:22 -0500 To: Vonn Marie May Whoa, Ms. May. My story in current draft form is about 7,000 words long and it is entirely about the changes to the NEVP. Part of the story has to do with NBCC because of the MOU signed in 2010 creating Lane Field setback park, which altered the NEVP. NBCC was also involved in 13 lawsuits, about half of which had to do directly with NEVP projects. It would be irresponsible NOT to include the NBCC in a story about the NEVP. The story also has to do with Steve Cushman, with San Diego development, with public input, and with the justified NBCC lawsuits over changes to the NEVP. Do to the gripings of some former members, I am pursuing questions about how the Coalition was handled in its later years, mainly from 2010 onwards. I asked you about your involvement as CFO because I have been told on more than one occasion that many NBCC members were not kept informed as to the Coalition's actions, and therefore, I wanted to know if you even aware that you were listed as CFO. Or if you were involved in the MOU negotiations over the setback park. If you do not want to be involved, that is fine. But please do not accuse me of twisting words or having ulterior motives. This is a months-long investigation that will accurately represent the entire truth of what happened with the NEVP to the best of my abilities. I don't know why a question as to your involvement on paper would lead you to believe anything nefarious about me or this story. I enjoyed and appreciated our conversation last month and have no plan or desire to twist your words to fit any narrative you may think I'm constructing. I apologize if the question offended you in any way, that was not my intention. Sincerely, -Brad Vonn Marie May wrote: Hello Brad, You initially contacted me, referred by Scott Andrews, under the guise of questions regarding the NEVP. Memory serves that you were gathering information for an article about the dubious process of development projects in San Diego that never seem to follow suit with an approved plan, that was your thesis. Your follow-up email doesn't seem to reflect the phone conversation we 4/11/16, 7:37 PM Re: Hello again 2 of 3 had a few weeks ago. It is exclusive to the Navy Broadway Complex Coalition, not even the Navy Broadway Complex, but a specific targeted group. So it seems the real mission in your investigation has little to do with the NEVP. Consequently, I feel violated. I do not appreciate having reporters schedule interviews under false pretenses, which is the case here. I have not been involved with the NBC Coalition for many years and do not recall what happened long ago, but I continue to have nothing but admiration and appreciation for the great work that its directors and lawyers have done, and are still doing, to protect the waterfront on behalf of the public. Now because of your investigative cleverness, I doubt that you will report what I shared with you accurately and therefore ask that you not report any of it. If you do decide to publish anything as a result of our phone interview, however, I demand that you include the full content of this e-mail message so that your readers have a complete picture of how you operate and recognize the high probability that you have twisted my words to suit your, now disclosed, investigation. I have a quick question -- in going through the NBCC's state and federal filings, were you aware you were listed as the organization's Chief Financial Officer for two years? Just checking.
