Maine Warden Service response to Portland Press"Allagash" story [Augusta, Maine – May, 9 2016] Maine has a rich outdoor history, one that includes conservation values that are considered to be at the forefront of the United States. Maine’s fish and wildlife economic impact exceeds $1.5 billion. Many people depend upon our resources for both recreational pleasure and employment. A story highlighted recently in the Press Herald regarding the Maine Warden Service makes numerous false claims and attempts to sell readers the impression that conserving Maine’s fish and wildlife is not a priority. The story reported that a two-year-old case provided scant results, was excessive in size, and the conduct by game wardens was questionable. The vast majority of the article contains misrepresentations and inaccuracies. The investigation moved its way through Maine’s judicial process to include the high court which upheld the convictions adjudged by the jury of Aroostook County citizens. The Department stands wholeheartedly behind this investigation and our game wardens as do the majority of Maine’s law abiding citizens and visitors to our great state. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will soon offer facts in a response article, which will be provided this week to the Press Herald. ### Corporal John MacDonald Public Relations & Information www.mainegamewarden.com
