Department of Education 5100 Cannes Street 1615 Poydras Street, Suite 400 New Orleans, LA 70129 New Orleans, LA 70112 Re: Einstein Charter School Dear Mr. Dobard and Ms. Narcisse: This morning, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) received preliminary results of the analysis of dust samples collected at Einstein Charter School (Einstein), 5100 Cannes St., New Orleans, LA, over the weekend. The analysis revealed that asbestos fibers were present in 13 of the 15 dust samples tested. Over the next two days, we expect to receive laboratory results from twenty?five other dust samples that were collected at Einstein. Given the preliminary results, the Recovery School District and The Einstein Group, Inc. shall take immediate action as necessary to protect the students, faculty and staff, short term workers and visitors to Einstein Charter School from asbestos exposure. immediate actions shall include, but are not limited to, aggressive air monitoring and appropriate thorough cleaning activities. Further, actions subsequently taken to address the presence of asbestos in the school must be in compliance with regulations on asbestos?containing materials in schools and state buildings, per Louisiana Administrative Code 332l l Chapters 27 and 51.
