April27y20161233 PM To: Tony Norwood Subject: lniormalion lrom Local EM's Just letting you know about two items that came up during Director Visits today. Lamar County, James Smith - James had an issue come up yesterday when he conducted his Bi>>Annual meeting with Red Cross and Dept of Human Services. (Which is required by EMPG) James advised me that Michael Andersons Disaster Program Specialist Mississippi Region with the Red Cross advised James that there are two new Shelter locations in Lamar County. James had no idea a shelter survey had even been conducted on these sites. Second item that came up during the meeting was a discussion of who has the authority to open a shelter. Mr. Andersons advised that the Red Cross could open a shelter ifthey decided it was needed and James advised him that was his call not the Red Cross. Just making sure you and the executive staff are aware of this. Thanks Paul Sheffield, MCEM Area Coordinator D8 Mississippi Emergency Management Agency
