(APHIS) From: -seaworld.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2011 2:54 PM To: ?usda.gov Subject: FW: Singer death SWT Zc?1076 I?m the person who found Singer on November 26?? 2010. Chris Bellows heard I was starting vacation tomorrow and would be gone until 8/23 and he let me know that you would like to hear from me what happened first hand. I fed our Sea lion pups Singer and Dixie at approximately 09:00 in our PH3 holding exhibit. Singer ate well, Dixie didn?t eat much so I went back at about 09:45 to attempt to get Dixie more food. When I went to unlatch the gate Dixie was right at the gate but Singer was not, which was unusual, so I entered the exhibit and looked around and saw Singer with her anterior 2/3 of her body down a deck drain with the grate that normally covers it off to the side (I saw that the grate was in place earlier). I immediately pulled her out of the drain, nudged her-she didn't move or seem to be breathing so I called our Vet. Dr.- and he said that he?d be there ASAP. I then called Chris Bellows and he told me he was with Drwell. When they arrived Dr- saw that Singers eyes were wide open, not moving and unresponsive with no heartbeat and he had me move her to Bldg. 72 for necropsy. Since then we have bolted the grate down permanently. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Supervisor of Animal Husbandry Sea World San Antonio
