Where do we go from here? On March 25 a public relations piece touting the Red Cross?s operation appeared in the Lake Charles American Press, including their feeding program and stating that they were here "for the long haul?. Now, less than 2 weeks later, the picture has changed. Today, these organizations announced that they were going to discontinue the operation this Friday. We had some trouble getting them here is the ?rst place, they said they were willing but Red Cross had not provided them with the food. We are being told now that there "data" indicated that they should shut down. They also indicated that the opening of a DSNAP of?ce indicated that everyone should have suf?cient food at that point. The Red Cross representatives there could not provide me with the numbers that their "data" was based on. The operation is currently feeding about 700-800 meals a day, or about 350-400 people. These people are not fully back in their houses, and many people who have a house can?t cook yet because they don?t have appliances. I have reports of other people living in tents and barns. Alternative housing is out of the question, there is none available within 50 miles of here due to the industrial activity here. The community has carried this about as far as they can. Can you give me any information on this? Thanks, Dick
