2016 Vetting Process for the Executive Director – PWSA The following is the sequence of the events that resulted in the employment offer made to Dr. K. Charles Griffin. 1. On April 11, 2016, at the direction of the Executive Director Search Committee, PWSA posted the Executive Director position on the following websites/ publications:  American Water Works Association  Pittsburgh Business Times  Indeed.com  Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority’s Website  LinkedIn  Monster 2. There were a total of 29 resumes received. During the month of May, HR conducted phone screens on 18 candidates that appeared to meet the qualifications in the job description and reviewed those with the search committee. The committee invited 11 candidates to participate in the first round of interviews with board panels. These took place in June. Dr. Griffin was among those that moved forward. He provided a complete resume from the time of his application. 3. Two board panels were established to conduct the initial interviews. Based on their evaluations of both the resumes and interviews, the candidate pool was narrowed to three finalists by late June. 4. References were then checked by HR on all the finalists and found favorable. 5. The three finalists were interviewed by the Search Committee in early July. The search committee selected Dr. Griffin as the preferred candidate pending a background check and the negotiation of acceptable terms. The committee was satisfied that he responded to all of the questions posed. During his interview he explained that he had made several moves in recent years as a result of a family matter. 6. HR secured the service of KlinkCheck, a recognized firm in the area, to conduct the background check on the successful candidate prior to extending the offer. 7. Background check was submitted on July 8, 2016 and cleared on July 13, 2016. 8. Candidate returned to Pittsburgh on July 21, 2016 for final interviews with board members not on the search committee. 9. Formal offer of employment was made July 25, 2016. 10. Offer was ratified at a Special Board Meeting July 27, 2016 (press release with bio supplied by candidate issued). He requested PWSA withhold the name of his present employer until such time as he completed notification. Full resume was released to media on July 28, 2016.
