Michael Honeycutt From: Thomas Dydek Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2016 9:09 AM To: yeow.aaron@epa.gov Cc: Michael Honeycutt Subject: CASAC Nomination Dear Mr. Yeow: I would like to recommend Dr. Michael Honeycutt for a position on the CASAC. i used to work in the TCEQ Toxicology Division that Mike is the head of now. I have known Mike for quite a few years and I have been impressed with his leadership in the agency and his adherence to using the best science in the decision- making process. With all of the industry, politics, and air pollution issues that come up in a large state like Texas, the job of the regulator is not an easy one. Mike has done very well in his tenure here in Texas. He has not always agreed with EPA positions on NAAQSs and other policies and I think that would be an asset to the CASAC. I?m sure you don?tjust want "yes men and women" on the Committee. In conclusion, it is my opinion that Dr. Honeycutt would be an excellent choice for a position on the CASAC. Subject: CASAC Nomination - Dr. Michael Honeycutt Public Comment Submittal Mr. Yeow The following is a recommendation in support of the nomination of Dr. Michael Honeycutt to serve on CASAC. My name is Jed Anderson and lam an environmental attorney in Houston, Texas. I was formerly with Baker Botts and Vinson Elkins?and a Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law School where I taught the Clean Air Act. I know Dr. Honeycutt and have watch his work closely in Texas for many years. Dr. Honeycutt is extremely well qualified, articulate, and brings a wealth of knowledge on the nexus between air quality and health. It is hard to imagine a person who could better serve CASAC. Dr. Honeycutt has testified several times before Congress and is renowned and respected in his field. His voice and discernment would be significant assets to CASAC. Even to those who may disagree with some of his points, Dr. Honeycutt seems to be respected and admired. Dr. Honeycutt from my observations always appears to listen to others opinions, and to engage with them in ways that are respectful and make whatever decisions are made?that much better. I emphatically endorse the nomination of Dr. Michael Honeycutt to serve on CASAC. if you have questions further assistance to you in your discernment process, please let me know. -Jed Jed Anderson, Attorney 155 The AL LAW GROUP PLLC W: (281) 852-8064 C: (832) 428-4257 ied??aiiaweoxom Environmental Law Big-fine .ixectigaca. I?ve seen bad air. I didn?t like it much. But as we both know, the thing is that even when we had ?bad air? days (back in that hot summer of 2012 I had a couple of 105 days) those weren?t really bad air. Not like I?ve seen. And smelled. And tasted. Anyway, I agree. I?m not anti?EPA either. I am pro?common sense. Good luck. Dave From: Michael Honeycutt Sent: Friday, June 24, 2016 11:55 AM To: David Grimes Subject: RE: CASAC nomination public comment period Thanks, Dave. I really appreciate the support. it would be a minor miracle if EPA selects me. I think the environmentalists would give them fits. If EPA doesn?t want comments on their proposals, then why put them out for public comment? Anyway, I think they?ll select the guy from WESTAR. He represents 15 states and hasn't been cast by the media as anti-EPA like I have. i?m not anti-EPA at all. I?m just pro-science. Take care, Mike Michael E. I?ll send them an email supporting your nomination. Do you think you?ll get the gig? Dave From: Michael Honeycutt Sent: Friday, June 24, 2016 11:14 AM To: David Grimes Subject: RE: CASAC nomination public comment period Hi Dave, Yes. it?s very clearthat there is no difference in inhaled ozone dose between 75 and 70 ppb. in other words, your body can?t tell the difference between 75 and 70 ppb. Even own modeling showed no reduction in asthma hospitalizations in kids nor in the elderly from lowering the standard. From the biology side of things, this is very tiny. From the implementation side of things, this is huge. Next up is PM. The PM2.5 annual standard could be lowered as low as 6 ug/m3. Mike Michael E.
