SUBJECT:

The Director’s Meeting with Vanessa Kerry to discuss the Peace Corps Global
Health Service Partnership on Friday, September 16th at 2:00pm.

Background on status of Global Health Service Partnership
 Vanessa, Buck, Sarah, and Adam had a productive call last week to review significant
progress on the proposal for a Peace Corps Global Health Service Partnership.


Vanessa, Buck, and Sarah are meeting with Ambassador Goosby on the morning of 9/16/11
to discuss next steps for the GHSP.



Conversations with OGAC leadership confirm that Ambassador Goosby is very supportive of
the initial proposal. Peace Corps will formally request for funding through the
PEPFAR/Headquarters Operational Plan (HOP) process and receive a final decision from
OGAC on funding by January/February 2012.



Vanessa has secured seed funding and is poised to begin private fundraising for the project
through a newly registered 501(c)(3) entity.



The current tentative plan is to:
1.

Have sufficient assurance from OGAC to proceed with private fundraising and other
organizational effort on Vanessa’s part.

2. Initiate the Peace Corps-led process to identify initial countries and their academic
institutions and begin PCR recruitment.
3. Make a major public announcement regarding the partnership not later than July 2012
(potentially in the context of the International Society meeting in Washington).
4. Have Volunteers in the field by Fall 2012.
