Dear Governor Patrick,

On Friday afternoon, September 9th, I received a phone call from your
General Counsel, Darrell Davila, and Chief of Staff, Logan Spence, requesting
that I immediately resign my position as a member of the Texas Ethics
Commission.

They said that your request was not based on my personal performance as a
Commissioner, but upon your determination that it was time for the
Commission to move in a new direction.

While I appreciate their offer to "keep me in mind? if I was interested in a
new, appointive public service position at some point in the future, I have
decided that I will not tender my resignation at this time.

find the work ofthe Commission to be important, challenging and
rewarding. Equally important, it enables me to meet my personal and
professional commitment to our Founding Principles of informed civic
participation and self-government.

Therefore, I look forward to continuing to serve the People of Texas until the
conclusion of my term on November 19, 2017.
