The move allows her to retain her paycheck and benefits through the end of the year, white attempting to assuage concerns among Dems that she will be an albatross around the neck of the caucus in the Upcoming election. One Dem source said the caucus is looking at and wondering ifthey can replace her on the ballot. The statute states that, in the event a candidate voIUntarily withdraws from a race "after the close of petition ?iing but prior to a primary or general election," the district PCs "shall nominate a candidate of the party's choice and shall ?le a nomination paper and affidavit." Although there are already three other Democrats seeking the two seats. elections attorney Kory Langhofer told our reporter that the law seems to indicate that Democrats could choose a replacement for Velasquez on the ballot.
