V.) WHEREAS this Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the prosecution of Defendant Dylann S. Roof relating to the alleged murders of June 17, 2015 in the City of Charleston, WHEREAS at the September 16, 2015 hearing, the State and the Defense represented to the Court they would both be ready for trial by July 11, 2016. WHEREAS on April 7, 2016, Defendant filed a Motion to Reschedule the Trial. On April 13, 2016, the Court held a hearing on the Motion and granted the request for a continuance based on the need for a mental health evaluation that the Defense asserted would take siX months. WHEREAS this Court rescheduled the trial for January 17, 2017 to allow time to conduct the evaluation and prepare for trial. Page 1 of 2 WHEREAS the Honorable Richard M. Gergel scheduled the federal trial of Dylann S. Roof to be held on November 7, 2016 prior to the previously scheduled death penalty trial in this Court. WHEREAS on May 4, 2016, the State filed a Motion for a Revised Scheduling Order, which was argued before the Court on June 20, 2016. WHEREAS the Honorable Clifton Newman has exclusive jurisdiction over State v. Michael Slager, where trial is scheduled to begin on October 31, 2016 and Solicitor Wilson and Deputy Solicitor DuRant are prosecuting that case in addition to this case. WHEREAS the Honorable Richard M. Gergel has exclusive jurisdiction over the federal trial of Defendant Roof arising out of the same murders in this case, where trial is scheduled to begin on November 7, 2016. THEREFORE it is Ordered that the Clerk of Court shall summons two hundred (200) jurors to appear on January 17, 2017, two hundred (200) jurors to appear on January 23, 2017, and two hundred (200) jurors to appear on January 30, 2017.
