ALTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ICER NARRATIVE REPORT 5- 00251.94 SUPPLEMENT AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT DATE AND TIME 017 TEES SUPPLEMENT: 09/25/97 1000 HOURS I, Detective Cooley, interviewed the follwfing person at Headquartersl in the presence of his attorney, PHIL (work phone RAYMOND T. ADAMS WHITE MALE DOB 02 1 I advised ADAMS of his Miranda Warnings and then I advised ADAMS that several young female children had made sexual allegations against him. I advised him the allegations were that he acposed the childrens' breast and vaginas. I also advised ADAMS and HORWITZ that when ADAMS had exposed the youth's vaginas, he would pull the child-s leotards down at the grain area with his finger and rub the leotard back and forth exposing the child's vagina. while I was speaking to ADAMS, he did not deny any of the, allegations. ADAMS made several head gestures in an agreeing manner towards me, in that when I spoke to him, ADAMS nodded his head in a positive manner as if he was agreeing with me for what I was saying. ADAMS asked me. "What can 1 do to take care of this: I am willing to do my part and take care of it." I told ADAMS that the first and most important thing was that he must stop his actions and he should never melest any more children. secondly, I wanted him to be honest and tell me what he did tn the and why. I then advised ADAMS that I would hope that he got counselling for his problems and he would not keep employment where he was involved with children, like a gymnastics instructor. I n',l a -.1 DATE AND TIME OF TEES 09/26/97 HOURS ADAMS stated that he would cooperate and he would quit his gymnastics employment and he was already working part?time with Circuit City- ADAMS stated that he had to finish some gymnastics classes that he was instructing, due to the fact that he had already been paid through December of 1997. I then told ADAMS that I would request a written statement and that would be the first step towards him being truthful about him touchingesereral young-female students in his "ymnastics class- HORWITZ then advised me that he could not allow ADAMS to provide a written statement unless the prosecutor was involved with the interview and confession. stated that his request was that ADAMS did not have a felony conviction in.reference to these allegations. requested the prosecutor to be involved with a plea agreement from.the beginning of the written statement. stated that he and ADAMS could come back to Headquarters for another appointment with the prosecutor and myself. At this time, the interview was terminated. HORWITZ requestedhis client, wait in the lobby area and he - requested to speak to-me by ourselves. Once ADAMS left the'internie?7 room, HORWITZ stated that there was no doubt in his mind that if he had not been present during the interview, ADAMS would have provided a confession statement. HDRWITZ stated that his main concern was that he requested.ADAMS to not-have a felony conviction because it would ruin criminal history.
