SYCAMORE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE December 9, 2016 Releasing Authority: Chief Glenn Theriault Sycamore Police Department Phone: 815-895-3435 UPDATE: SUBJECT ARRESTED FOR CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE On December 7th, 2016 Joseph R. Hannon, a 21 year old resident of the 1700 block of DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore was taken into custody and charged with crimes related to inappropriate contact with a 9 year old girl. The incident occurred on November 25th when Hannon, an Energym employee, placed his hands on her hips and pressed his lower body against her while she was bending over using a drinking fountain. An investigation was conducted during which detectives were able to collect video evidence of the incident. Subsequent to interviews with the suspect and witnesses he was taken into custody. Hannon was charged with one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Class 2 Felony. Hannon (see photo below) was transported to the DeKalb County Jail where he will be held prior to a December 8th bond hearing. Joseph R. UPDATED INFORMATION On December 9th, 2016 Joseph Hannon appeared for bond call in DeKalb County Court on new charges related to a second victim. In this incident, Hannon allegedly touched a 9 year old girl inappropriately while she was attending a tumbling class Hannon was coaching at Energym in Sycamore. In addition to the prior charges, Hannon also faces four Class 2 felony counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, and one Class X felony count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. Hannon remains in custody at the DeKalb County jail pending a January 6th court date. His total bond is set at $1,000,000 which would require Hannon to post $100,000 to be released.
