John Urquhart From: John Urquhart [johnurq@comcast.net] Sent: Frida October 19 2012 9:59 PM To: Subject: nee your p. importance: High Hi ell they are really getting desperate so i?m afraid i need your help with something (again). Take a look at the incoming e-mail to Chris, my campaign manager, (below) and you?ll see what?s going on. Background: As you know, when I was a sergeant at Pct. tie-in 2002/2003, 1 was told by Sheriff Reichert as well as my precinct commander at the time, to hold the folks on my shift accountable for their performance. ?Raise the bar? are the words that were used. I did that, and since that had not been happening, it didn?t go over very well. As a result a few people on the shift-men and women??filed a complaint against me. Some of the allegations included gender harassment. (But there was ?gyel an allegation of sexual harassment.) There was a long investigation and was ultimately cleared of all the allegations. However i received a Memo of Corrective Counseling for Performance Standards. it was determined i caused "low morale? on the shift. And that was the end of it. But now there are three women from that time who refuse to let it go. They are now making a campaign issue out of it, and alleging that have "trouble managing women", or even that i am a ?misogynist?. They called or e-mailed all the media outlets around town in an effort to get their story told and derai! my campaign. But no avail. When that didn?t work attorney Anne Bremner called a press conference a couple weeks ago. (Anne is a member of Strachan?s Finance Committee so it's pretty obviods Strachan?s campaign is behind all this!) Only two members of the press attended, the Seattle Times and KIROJ. The current members of the Sheriff's Office refused to go on the record so they weren?t used in'the story. However Liz Lawee Johnson did go on camera. She said her piece and that was the end of it. Very little coverage on and no place else. The Seattle Times didn?t write about it because they saw through it. None of the other media attended because they have looked into this in the past and saw this as vindictiveness driven by the campaign. But now there is a new wrinkle. Because they can?t get any traction on the story, three deputies have now decided to come forward and use their names. 1 don?t know for sure who they are other than one is Mary Syson. They have contacted Cienna Madrid at The Stranger and she is writing a story for next Wednesday. So can you help? i think the best thing is for you to write Cienna an e?mail relating all you know about the situation. You can talk about working for me at the time, your lawsuit and how those women treated you when you wouldn't jump on board and how Liz bullied you, how you had to leave the precinct and whatever you think is appropriate. You will have to provide you name for credibility sake however. Time is of the essence. i?m meeting with her Monday at 9:00 AM to tell my side. And she is writing the story that day. i'm afraid it?s critical that I get support, and you are not the only person i am contacting. But this is exactly the kind of thing that can, tube my campaign in the last two weeks. l?m sorry to have to ask you to do this, but it?s incredibly important. Ciennars phone number is (205) 323?7107 Ext. 3041. Her e?mail is? Thank you so much. I made a few changes, I just hope that is all right. Idon?t want- you ?out there? and a story about you in The Stranger, so that?s why I made the changes. If it reads okay please cut and paste and send it on to Cienna Madrid. Thanks again? but I can?t thank you enough. John Dear Ms. Madrid, Hello! My name 1? I worked for the King County Sheriffs Of?ce for many years, including almost two years wit John Urquhart as my immediate supervisor. I recently moved to Boston from Houston, Texas (worst place ever), after my husband accepted a job working for Harvard University. Nonetheless, I read all the Seattle papers daily. I have been very confused and concerned about this group of women who are casting John Urquhart in a very unfair and untrue light. Sgt. Urquhart was my Sergeant for nearly two years and I feel I have a duty to tell the truth here. I no longer pay much attention to the Sheriff's Of?ce, but I do have a few people on aceboolt but I actively don?t contact anyone. One thing I do is read all the articles. I was a very different of?cer at KCSO. I lived in Belltown, I am very liberal, refused to pro?le, knew a prostitute could be raped, and had much more police experience than anyone knew. I had worked at Skagit County Sheriffs Of?ce as a Corrections Of?cer and at Police Department as a Reserve Officer. Let?s just say I have worked with a lot of supervisors! I personally enjoyed working for Sgt. Urquhart. I never met Sgt. Urquhart until I started working for him. Not everyone liked working for him, but many did, mainly because he was a ?no nonsense? type of guy. But I always made my own decision by watching and learning. I quickly ?gured out Sgt. Urquhart was essentially screwed before he even came to Precinct 4. Sgt. Urquhart brought a different kind of supervision, perhaps because he was older than most sergeants and didn?t consider himself ?one of the boys?. But most of all, he held us responsible. We had inspections and looking back, I am embarrassed by how I looked. John often sent reports back for corrections when they were poorly written. That had not happened before. One issue I remember is that some people have said Sgt. Urquhart only wanted women to take rape cases. That was not true. However I had just come off an assignment working as a School Resource Of?cer at Tyee High School. I know after the students knew - ey could trust me, I had rapecases. Not that men cannot take cases but recently I held a job as a Sexual Assault Advocate in Texas answering the hotline and both men and women were much more comfortable talking to a woman and Precinct 4 had further complication, a large Middle Eastern population-where I saw some of?cers being so disrespectful they would refuse to take their shoes off before entering the Mosque in SeaTac. That?s pitiful. I know of only one instance where Sgt. Urquhart asked a female deputy specifically to take a rape report. My understanding is that the victim was a juvenile, and I assume that was the reason. And a correct decision at that, based on my experience I By now some deputies had ?led a complaint against Sgt. Urquhart. When I refused to add my name to the complaint a few women at the precinct said we could no longer be friends and began to severely bully and 1 John Urquhart From: John Urquhart Uohnurq@cumcasi.net] Sent: Satu OctoberZO. 2012 A 14 PM To: Subject: Regar ng ohn Urquhar'l Feel tree to tell herthat I asked you to write if she specifically asks, She is going to knowthat anyway because a few otherwornen are writing as well. What should my answer be when she asks why I contacted her and no one else in the media? I appreciate you keeping us out of the media, I guess Harvard is Very sensitive about that and employees have to report itthey or their family members are in the paper. That place is run oftools. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I look forward to you Winning this next On Oct 20, 2012, at 6:06 PM, John Urquhart I personally enjoyed working for Sgt. Urquhart. Urquhart.? When I refused to add my name to the complaint a few women at the precinct said we could no longer be friends and began to severely bully and harass me. Eventually I transferred from the precinct to get away from this group. And it was all because I refused to sign my name to a complaint with no merit. A couple of years ago one of our former deputies ?led a lawsuit against the Sheriff?s Of?ce. During the lawsuit his lawyer called me because one of his allegations was that a deputy had been bullying him after he testi?ed against another deputy for punching a handcuffed prisoner in the face. That female deputy was the same one who bullied me. My police career spanned many years, and I worked at three different police departments. I have worked with men who clearly did not want to work with women and made that very obvious. This was not the case with Sergeant Urquhart. He is a man who tried to change a few things on his shift to make it better and more professional. However he met with the same fate as I did: bullying and intimidation that apparently continues 10 years later. That is a shame and it needs to stOp. - Feel free to call or write if you would like totalk further.
