The complaint centered around their spring contamination caused by fracing activity by Duhring Resources. They showed me a sample they had collected on Saturday,10/13/07 when the problem first started. The sample had a very distinct chemical odor.An inspection revealed that frac fluids had overflowed the pit and migrated to the water supplies.Duhring Resources was cited for violations of the Clean Streams law,the Solid Waste Management Act and failure to maintain 2 feet of frreeboard in their frac pit. The operator removed the fluids and closed the pit. They also cleaned up the spilled frac fluids and seeded and mulched the area. Samples were taken from both--- and--- springs and sent to the PA bureau of Labs for SAC 941 and TPH analysis. The water still had an odor but not nearly as strong as the sample provided by ---- The analysis of the ----- spring revealed High levels of Iron(<20 ug/l) and an elevated Specific Conductivity(72umhos/cm) above the pre-drill analysis.-------- spring appeared to not have been affected. 11/7/07 Took additional samples from both ----- and---- springs. Water appeared clear and odorless. Location was snow covered and frozen,. Results indicated that all parameters were within drinking water standards and slightly elevated above the pre-drill parameters supplied by Duhring. 11/21/07 An Act 223, Section 208 determination letter was sent to both ---- and ------ indicating that ------s water supply had not been affected by oil and Gas activity and that although-----------'s water supply was affected initially by Oil and Gas activity, there were no long term effects.
