Archives New Zealand - Prime Minister John Key's records after he resigns Kyle Leota Wed, Dec 21, 2016 at 9:39 AM To:  Good morning Mr Taylor   Thank you for your e-mail regarding the Prime Minister’s records, and what happens to them when he resigns. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay in replying to you.   The disposal of the Prime Ministers records are covered by disposal authorities DA104 and DA214, which were issued by the Chief Archivist in accordance with the Public Records Act 2005. Disposal authorities allow public offices to transfer records to Archives New Zealand, and destroy records that do not have archival value.   The records of the Prime Minister (and all Ministers of the Crown) are managed through support services provided to the executive branch, through the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Department of Internal Affairs (Ministerial and Secretariat Support). This advice would also cover the use of disposal authorities.   Kind regards Kyle   Kyle Leota | Senior Archivist, Disposal and Acquisition | Government Recordkeeping Directorate Archives New Zealand - Te Rua Mahara o te Kawanatanga Direct Dial: +64 4 894 6060| Extn: 9260  10 Mulgrave Street | PO Box 12-050, Wellington 6144, New Zealand |  www.archives.govt.nz  Archives New Zealand is part of the Department of Internal Affairs
