Department of Trade Industry, Republic of the Philippines June 1, 2010 November 30, 2010 ARA Item 11 ACTIVITIES UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE DEPMITMENT OF TRADE INDUSTRY, REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES Activities for the Department of Trade and Industry, Republic of the Philippines, during this period involved the following: (I) Advocacy efforts on behalf of Congressional consideration of the SAVE our Industries Act (HR. 3039 S. 3170), which would expand textile and apparel trade between the United States and the Philippines, including scheduling 1n the Congress for Philippines of?cials, and Filipino and private sector interests in support of the SAVE Act. We (2) Support to Philippines Government and private sector representatives on addre ss r? .n labor issues relevant to bilateral Philippines?US. relations and the SAVE Act. 1% included a trip to the Philippines on August 19-20 to participate in labor compllance and: g? SAVE Act program With representatives of Philippines Government unions and priva sector, and the International Labor Organization A d? (3) Engaging with the U. S. private sector with an interest in textiles and apparel to seekcg their active support for the SAVE Act. (4) Support activities for the effort of the Philippines Government and pnvate sector to do outreach to the F111pino-American community on the SAVE Act includmg discussions with Philippines-based media (5) Scheduhng and brie?ng support for the visits of Philippines government delegations to Washington in September and November, 2010. The delegation of September 28?30, 2010 was led by Undersecretary Cristino Panlilio of the Department of Trade Industry, and included representatives of the Philippines private sector. The delegation met with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, American Apparel and Footwear Association, National Retail Federation, U.S. Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel, and the American Manufacturer?s Trade Action Coalition. The delegation of November 16- 19 included Board of Investments Executive Director, Lucita Reyes and representatlves of the Philippines private sector. The delegation met with representatives of the American Apparel and Footwear Association, the American Manufacturer 5 Trade Actlon Coalition, Members of Congress, and Congressional staff These efforts involved assisting in the scheduling of meetings the preparation of materlals the analys1s of trade data, and providing technical assistance related to the potential implementation of the legislation.
