Cal stare Office Memorandum Date: January 30, 2012 To: es M. Rosser, President From: Lisa Clgivez, Vice Pr ent for Administration CFO Copies: J. Almeida, N. Hunt, H. Jacinto, J. White Subject: Student Success Fee On Friday January 27, 2012 the Student Fee Advisory Committee met to discuss our recommendation to you for the Student Success Fee, currently being proposed at $80 per quarter. The committee voted 3 to against recommending the fee. While the committee feels strongly for the need to provide additional services to students to assist them in timely graduation, the student members could not in good conscience vote on additional fees for the students they represent. The request for this fee comes at a very difficult time when everyone is being stretched due to tuition fee increases. The student members of the cormnittee were concerned about the current cost of attendance. This coupled with the looming $200 million trigger cut facing the CSU, the proposal by the Governor to cut Cal Grants to many of our students, and the ever volatile state of Pell Grants at the federal level left the students asking if there could be another way to provide additional academic and student support services Without a mandatory student fee.
