April 9, 2012 Dear Harry, Thank you for your email on April 6th in response to our letter to Linda Williams. We appreciate that you also want a representative sample of students to meet with the Chancellor's Search Committee on May 4th and your offer to grant the GA 6 appointments to allow for more graduate student presence. However, we feel that the process and type of representatives in your letter are not completely reflective of our campus community. Your email states "To further clarify the process for selection of student representation to meet with the search committee, I have outreached to several formal student advisory groups across the campus." When we reached out to some of the students on your list, they had never heard of this meeting or that their names had been put on the list. Some even expressed discomfort with their names being placed on a list they were not consulted about. We also want to remind you that this is during dead week of finals, so we are concerned that students who weren't consulted, may not be available to attend on May 4th. We would like to encourage you to reconsider this stakeholder selection process. As per our first letter, we believe the best process would be to select: 3 ASUC reps, 3 GA reps, 6---8 from campus advisory committees, and 10 selected from the general student body through an application process vetted by the GA and ASUC presidents and confirmed by you or Linda. We are happy to create such an application. We would also like to reemphasize the importance of having a general town hall for campus members to attend. We think it is important for the Search Committee to hear from a larger cross section of the campus community. This process also assures a more transparent and inclusive stakeholder process. We thank you for your consideration and look forward to your response.
