Bleeding Heartland Mail - compensating for July 2015 travel to Rochester 1/23/17, 8:50 AM Laura Belin compensating for July 2015 travel to Rochester Laura Belin Wed, Jan 11, 2017 at 12:58 PM To: "Landolt, Megan L [PRES]" , "McCarroll, John F [U REL]" Circling back, since I never got an answer to either question: 1. Will President Leath reimburse (or has he already reimbursed) the ISU Foundation another $1,265.60 for the fourth King Air round trip flight that was involved in taking him to Rochester and back twice for medical appointments in July 2015? 2. Does President Leath plan to take a tax deduction on the $19,113.08 in additional reimbursements he paid to the ISU Foundation in late 2016? The wording in the audit is likely confusing because two of the “occasions” are actually considered “one trip” – that is the university plane flew President Leath to Mayo for a medical procedure (one occasion), then the plane returned a few days later to pick up President Leath and fly him back to Ames (second occasion). The third occasion was up one day and back the next. The President paid for all three occasions (two trips). Both trips occurred in July 2015. Although the currently available online records do not show it, the first transport of President Leath to Rochester that month occurred on July 20. As Megan said, the King Air "returned a few days later" to pick him up on July 23. The other trip for the president also involved two round-trip King Air flights to Rochester: one on July 29 and the other on July 30. The $3,796.80 reimbursement for medical travel only covers three of the four times the King Air flew round-trip between Ames and Rochester during July 2015. Will President Leath reimburse the ISU Foundation another $1,265.60 for the fourth King Air round trip flight that was involved in taking him to Rochester and back twice for medical appointments? Also, wanted to clarify: does President Leath plan to take a tax deduction on the most recent reimbursements to the ISU Foundation? He said in October that he was not planning to declare the compensation for Cirrus repairs and storage as a tax-deductible charitable contribution.
