Megan Landolt, Assistant to the President for Communications Office of the President From: Laura Belin [mailto:desmoinesdem@bleedingheartland.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2016 9:04 AM To: McCarroll, John F [U REL] ; Landolt, Megan L [PRES] ; Rippke, Sheryl L [U CSL] Subject: a few more quick questions John and Megan, Can one of you please break down the latest $19,000 in reimbursements to ISU's Foundation? How much covered President Leath's training/certification flights as opposed to trips to Rochester and the Elmira stop? Rochester trips: $3,796.80 Cirrus training flights: $14,575 Elmira: 741.28 Total: $19,113.08 https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=aba02e4a98&view=pt&q=quic%20&search=query&msg=158f9206da2f1fad&siml=158f9206da2f1fad Page 1 of 2 Bleeding Heartland Mail - a few more quick questions 1/26/17, 3:43 PM Also, the audit mentioned a bunch of trips to Rochester, MN, some for medical appointments. How many of those were for annual physicals? Regarding the two trips to Rochester for which President Leath reimbursed the ISU Foundation, when did those happen? Were those trips for annual physicals, or some other kind of medical evaluation or treatment? “As the audit states, a university-owned aircraft or university resources were utilized to transport President Leath to Rochester, MN seven times.” On three occasions (which is actually two trips) the sole purpose was for a medical appointment. The wording in the audit is likely confusing because two of the “occasions” are actually considered “one trip” – that is the university plane flew President Leath to Mayo for a medical procedure (one occasion), then the plane returned a few days later to pick up President Leath and fly him back to Ames (second occasion). The third occasion was up one day and back the next. The President paid for all three occasions (two trips). Both trips occurred in July 2015. The other four occasions included medical appointments and donor/outreach meetings. ISU's September 23 press release stated, "There were no injuries resulting from the [hard] landing." I assume this means that none of the trips to Rochester, MN were for medical appointments related to any injury sustained in the hard landing incident--is that accurate? Correct, there were no injuries sustained in the hard landing, and therefore, none of the trips to Mayo had anything to do with the hard landing. I also assume this means that when reporting the July 2015 incident to the FAA, ISU or President Leath stated that no one was injured in the hard landing. Can you confirm and provide a copy of the document ISU or President Leath filed with the FAA reporting the incident? This request will need to go through our Public Records Officer.
