Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Wisconsin leads the nation in collecting homeless data on Wisconsin veterans by using the HMIS system. During the year, the 24 statewide Continuum of Care networks and users of HMIS enters homeless veterans data into the HMIS System. For calendar year 2016, the HMIS report shows that there were 1,707 homeless veterans being served by the various providers over the course of the year versus the 415 veterans the USDVA reported. Point in Time (PIT) Report: The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) uses the PIT report to determine how many homeless veterans there are per year in each state. During one day in January each year the USDVA will work with volunteers, emergency shelters, Veteran Transitional Housing facilities and other partners to identify and count the number of homeless veterans they can locate throughout the state. This data is consolidated and used to reflect the number of homeless veterans in each state. • 2016: 415 (392 sheltered, 23 unsheltered) • • • • • 2015: 534 (515 sheltered, 19 unsheltered) 2014: 520 (496 sheltered, 24 unsheltered) 2013: 552 (528 sheltered, 24 unsheltered) 2012: 539 (525 sheltered, 14 unsheltered) 2011: 607 (584 sheltered, 23 unsheltered) – 22% Decrease from 2015 Note: Both reports do include veterans that are being housed in one of the ten (10) Veteran Transitional Housing Programs (Grant & PerDiem) located throughout the state; which offers a total of 348 beds for veterans.
